Phu Thi Pagoda

This pagoda, often called Sui pagoda, is located in Phu Thuy village, Gia Lam, a suburban district of Hanoi.

It was built in the Ly times. Many 17th, 18th and 19th century remains are still kept here, such as a 1.15 metre high lacquer coated wood statue of the Buddhas of Three Times, dragon-carved rafters, stone gongs and steles and great bells. Lady Y Lan, the First Concubine is worshipped here.

Phu Thi village is also a home to many well-known scholars and poets such as Nguyen Huy Can (1728-1780), Nguyen Huy Luong (in the 18th century) and Cao Ba Quat (1808-1854).

Its open space, combined in harmony with its ancient architecture, makes it a variety in Vietnamese Buddhist architecture.

The pagoda is recognised as one the national historical-cultural vestiges by the Ministry of Culture and Information.
