Study of cross-bred pigs with high output and quality Study of cross-bred pigs with high output and quality is the name of a group of researches by a group of authors including assistant professors and doctors Nguyen Thien, former head of Breeding Institute; Tran The Thong, former head of southern Agriculture Science and Technology Institute; Le Thanh Hai, deputy head of southern Agriculture Science and Technology Institute and director of Binh Thang Breeding Training and Research Centre; Vo Trong Hot, head of pig department (Hanoi Agriculture College 1); Nguyen Khanh Quac, Labour Hero and rector of Thai Nguyen Agriculture College 3; Pham Huu Doanh, head of pig department of the Breeding Research Institute (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); and Dinh Hong Luan, manager of pig farm (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); engineer Le Ba Lich, deputy head of Agriculture Encouragement Department (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); engineer Vu Kinh Truc, senior specialist of Breeding Department (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); Professor Doctor Tran Dinh Mien, former deputy head of Training Department (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) and engineer Luu Ky, specialist of Breeding Institute (the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.) This group of researches, started in 1960, is a scientific work with high scientific and practical value. On the basis of studying synchronously and systemising characters of physiological, biochemical and reproductive genetics and breeding domestic, exported and cross-bred baby pigs. The scientists found a formula to hybridise pigs and created cross-bred pigs with high output and quality by combining the advantages of domestic pigs such as fecundity, delicious and fragrant meat and strong defence system against malnutrition and harsh climate with the advantages of foreign pigs such as high output, gaining weight quickly and the high rate of lean meat. The scientists have created a successful in vitro fertilisation method to quickly develop cross-bred pigs in different ecological regions for high efficiency. The productivity of cross-bred pigs has increased to 25% from 15%. Cross-bred pigs with 50% of blood of foreign pigs have accounted for 78.5% of pigs nationwide. It has contributed to increasing meat output ten times for the past forty years. The study has reached the international standard. More than 200 papers involved in the study have been published in the country and abroad. By VUONG LINH NAM
